It’s been a year of outlandish celebrity concoctions—from Matthew McConaughey’s action-packed tuna salad to Dua Lipa’s tangy pickle cocktail—and a new contender just took social media by storm. Known for her array of flavorful Italian dishes, celebrity chef and television personality Giada De Laurentiis never fails to inspire viewers with exciting approaches to cooking.
With notable dishes like her famous lemon spaghetti and simple bolognese, nothing will prepare you for her latest culinary revelation combining a certain sweet treat with an Italian staple. De Laurentiis took to Instagram to reveal the recipe of her favorite childhood dish, and its ingredients might surprise you.

Giada De Laurentiis’s Chocolate Pasta Recipe
For her chocolate pasta recipe, the renowned chef opts for classic pasta shells (bonus points if you use a box from Giadzy), so a proper amount of chocolate melts into your mouth from every forkful. Once cooked, De Laurentiis adds the pasta to a bowl and mixes in Pariani’s Hazelnut & Cocoa Spread until the pasta is fully coated.
In place of sprinkled parmesan cheese, she grates her favorite Italian chocolate candy over the pasta. Just like that, the dish is complete.
Fans Express Mixed Reactions
Just because a dish is easy to make doesn’t mean everyone will jump on board—especially when it goes against traditional cooking notions.
“No, I’m sorry, but this looks completely disgusting. There are just some things that shouldn’t go on pasta, and chocolate is one of them,” reads one comment on De Laurentiis’s post, protesting the recipe.
Surprisingly, many fans seem to be intrigued rather than repelled by the dish. Some recognize this may not be the wildest take on a pasta recipe.
“Sooooo Buddy the elf was really onto something here, huh,” says another comment on her post.
And maybe Giada is onto something too with this creative recipe—after all, pasta is a vessel for sauces. If you’ve tried dessert pizza or coated crackers and toast with layers of chocolate before, you’ll know that sometimes fusing two realms of the culinary world results in the most delicious bites.
“A bowl of pasta topped with a little chocolate, honestly, nothing is more comforting and more of a hug,” said De Laurentiis in her post.
